This course has an assignment to integrate AI into your website development. Learning to apply AI to tasks in your field is an important skill to develop. You may use AI to assist you with your discussion and assignments, if you choose, as long as you follow the following guidelines for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) while upholding ethical standards and integrity.
Incorporating AI into Your Assignments:
- You may explore the innovative capabilities of AI as a research and design assistant, and to incorporate content and tools into your projects.
- Ensure that your use of AI aligns with the learning objectives of the course and contributes meaningfully to your learning experience.
Transparency and Citation:
- Be transparent (open) about your use of AI tools in your assignments, clearly stating when, where, how, and to what extent you utilized AI. It’s ok to use it – just let us know where and how you used AI, and for what purpose.
- Properly cite all AI-generated content following established citation styles such as MLA, APA, or Chicago.
- If you only used AI for brainstorming to generate ideas or research, then just let us know that (with statements such as “I used ChatGPT 3.5 to generate ideas for my project”). However, if any of your written content, images, tools integrated into your website or other aspects of your work comes from AI, you’ll need to be specific and provide the citation.
Intellectual Property and Copyright:
- Respect intellectual property rights by refraining from using copyrighted material or intellectual property without explicit permission from the creator. Note that you can usually use content with creative commons licenses as long as you provide the proper citation/credit.
- Cultivate your creativity and originality while leveraging AI as a supportive tool in your web design and development projects. Use your own voice in your work.
Verification and Fact-Checking (AI makes stuff up!):
- Personally verify every output generated by AI tools to ensure accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness for your assignment.
- Critically evaluate AI-generated content, fact-checking information, and corroborating data from credible sources. AI makes stuff up and mixes up information; make sure you have checked the accuracy of the information it provides, review each source and correct any errors.
Ethical Considerations and Guardrails:
- Using AI technologies has risks, including biases, privacy concerns, and ethical dilemmas. Research shows that AI tools can be biased. This is especially true of images generated by AI. Make sure your AI generated images don’t show stereotypes. Use ethical, accurate representations if you are using images of people.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and best practices when using AI in your coursework, demonstrating responsibility and integrity.
Collaboration and Support:
- Engage in collaborative discussions with your peers about your experiences, challenges, and insights related to using AI for your web design projects.
- Seek out resources and support to navigate the complexities of AI technology, including ethical frameworks and tools for verification.
Continuous Learning and Adaptation:
- Stay informed about developments in AI ethics, guidelines, and regulations, empowering yourself to make informed decisions in your coursework and professional endeavors.
- Embrace a mindset of continuous learning and adaptation as AI technologies evolve and new ethical considerations arise.
